It's been a while since I've last seen a Viv Thomas movie. SHADES OF BLUE is her latest effort and I must say I am still very much enamoured with Viv's style. Thomas doesn't operate the camera anymore, but the movie still (or once again?) feels very authentic and loose, just like vintage Viv. Unlike old times, the cast now sports the odd tattoo, but at least the sex still works the same way it always has. It might not be as intense as in some of Viv's older movies, but that's really just nit-picking. The cast members deliver great performances and don't just act like Eastern European fuck robots. If you like lengthy kissing scenes, you will love the opening of the movie. My personal fave, however, is the soft S&M scene, which is a highly varied moment in the movie. On the whole, this flick is a nice mix of biopic and porn and it includes many candid moments with Blue who talks openly about her (sex)life on and off camera.
